The meaning of any place name, personal name, or name of any ancient people or nation has been forgotten over the course of history for various reasons, and the lack of historical narratives has made studying their etymology difficult today, and this process has led to the consideration of various meanings for them in the absence of historical narratives. The Lors are one of the original Iranian tribes who lived a nomadic or semi-nomadic lifestyle for several millennia to a few decades ago, and a number of them still live in the same way as their ancestors in the original habitat of Pont-Casp and are the heirs of ancient vocabulary and culture. The aim of this article is to examine the meaning of the word Lor based on the historical background and phonological developments of the language, and what this word means. The method of the article is to examine each phoneme of the word Lor based on the historical developments of Iranian languages, and to find historical narratives consistent with linguistic developments. In the end, it was concluded that the word Lor can be derived from the root *leu/leu/ur-e/o, meaning to pluck wool, based on its historical background, nomadic and pastoral lifestyle consistent with linguistic developments, and its ancient form, and more likely to mean "herder".
